Coming soon! You’ll be able to give SunSPOT seamless access to your electricity usage data and costs for quicker and more accurate results.
We’re making SunSPOT easier and faster to use. In the coming months, users will be able to allow SunSPOT direct access to their meter data and their current electricity prices thanks to the Australian Government’s Consumer Data Right.
This is good news for all users but particularly for those with smart or interval meters. Smart meter data shows your electricity usage broken down into 15 or 30 minute intervals. Smart meter data provides an accurate rendition of your daily electricity usage, across all of the seasons (if 12 months of data is available). Using smart meter data improves the accuracy of solar and battery savings estimates from SunSPOT.
Currently, if you want the most accurate results from SunSPOT, users with smart or interval meters need to request their meter data from their network service provider, and then upload it to SunSPOT. Happily, we’ll be eliminating these steps and users will simply approve the sharing of their meter data directly to SunSPOT.
The Australian Government’s Consumer Data Right gives Australians more control over their energy data. People can now access and share their energy usage data with accredited third parties to help them make informed decisions. The information is transferred using secure automated data technology.
What if you don’t have a smart meter?
Even if you don’t have a smart meter, the monthly or quarterly usage data drawn from your older style accumulation meter can be shared with SunSPOT.
You can also automatically share details of your electricity pricing plan to help SunSPOT make accurate bill estimates.
The data transfer is done between your electricity retailer and SunSPOT. The Australian Government has designed and oversees the system to ensure it is safe and secure for consumers. Providers like SunSPOT must go through a rigorous accreditation process to provide Consumer Data Right services. The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) manages this process.
We’re really excited about this new capability and what it means for users.
